Brian Merrett's appreciation of buildings is the result of growing up the son of an architect. This interest led to the documentation of threatened buildings in Montreal in the late 1960s, resulting in the saving and classification of some the city's key buildings. His work has been seen in many articles and books, including two books which he co-authored in the 1980s. Brian was a founding director of Héritage Montréal.

Working with architects, designers and publishers, Brian's services include maquette photography, on-site documentation, construction phase photography, interiors and exteriors. Merrett uses both conventional and digital technologies to bring a personal point of view to the built environment.

As well as commissioned work, Brian maintains an archive of black and white images of the western core area of Montreal from the late '60s to the mid '80s. These photographs are becoming increasingly of interest to historians and restorers.
